Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeals has upheld the sentence of six months and one day of imprisonment for Mohammad Habibi, the spokesperson for the Teachers’ Trade Association.
According to Kolbarnews, Mohammad Habibi’s prison sentence has been confirmed in the appeals court. His lawyer, Ramin Safarnia Kheshtooni, announced that Branch 36 of the Tehran Appeals Court rejected the appeal and confirmed his client’s sentence, which had been issued by Branch 2 of the Shahriar Revolutionary Court for “propaganda against the regime,” resulting in six months and one day of imprisonment.
The initial trial in this case took place on June 29, 2024. Habibi was arrested in mid-April 2023 by security forces at his workplace in Tehran due to his protest statements regarding the serial poisoning of students. He was eventually released on May 21, 2023, on bail from Ward 209 of Evin Prison.
It is noteworthy that Mohammad Habibi had been previously arrested on May 30, 2022, ahead of Teacher’s Week in Iran, during a protest by educators in Tehran. He was released from Evin Prison on February 8, 2023.
In November 2022, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced him to three years and seven months in prison for “assembly and collusion” and one year for “propaganda against the regime.” Additionally, he was given a two-year ban from engaging in activities or joining groups and was prohibited from leaving the country.
Habibi has been arrested and convicted several times in the past due to his activism.
