Nurses and staff at Hospital in Shiraz have been on a full strike for over two days, leading to an empty hospital with no staff or patients.
According to Kolbarnews and the Coordinating Council of Cultural Trade Unions, the strike is in protest of poor working conditions, low wages, and delayed payments of benefits. The strike, initially started at Shahid Chamran Hospital, has reportedly spread to several other hospitals in Shiraz.
Previously, nurses’ benefits were paid directly by the hospitals from their own revenues. However, with new administrative layers imposed for disbursing these benefits, the responsibility has shifted to the medical schools of the provincial centers. This shift has allowed hospitals to evade responsibility, while medical schools can delay or reduce payments without facing any consequences.
In recent years, as inflation has risen and economic conditions in Iran have worsened, there has been a significant increase in both the migration and resignation of nurses.
