Shahroud Prison: Execution of “Atefeh Rangriz” Sentences

The prison and monetary penalty sentences for “Atefeh Rangriz,” a women’s rights activist, have been executed in Shahroud Prison.

According to Kolbarnews, on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, the execution of sentences included a 6 million toman fine from the October 2023 case for the charges of “collaboration and membership in anti-regime groups” to 2 years, 7 months, and 16 days in prison, and for “propaganda against the regime” to 7 months and 16 days in prison, were officially communicated to “Atefeh Rangriz,” a women’s rights activist imprisoned in Shahroud Prison.

Atefeh Rangriz was arrested by security forces in Dameghan on Sunday, September 10, 2023, and transferred to the Intelligence Office of Semnan. On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, she went on a wet hunger strike in Shahroud Prison in protest of her illegal detention, refusal to accept bail, and being beaten.

In her hunger strike announcement letter, Ms. Rangriz wrote: “I declare my hunger strike in protest against the illegal refusal of bail, which has been faced with closed doors and walls five times so far, as well as the issuance of unjust sentences and illegal detention in Qarchak Prison.” Ms. Rangriz was temporarily released from prison on October 21, 2023, on a bail of one billion tomans.

Finally, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, “Atefeh Rangriz,” a writer, translator, and women’s rights activist, was re-arrested after appearing in Dameghan’s Prosecutor’s Office. According to the report, Atefeh Rangriz was arrested after a court session addressing her charges in the first branch of the Dameghan General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office and was transferred to Shahroud Prison.
