Atefeh Rangriz, a writer, translator, and women’s rights activist, has been granted medical leave from Shahroud prison.
According to Kolbarnews, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Atefeh Rangriz was granted a two-day medical leave from Shahroud prison. She shared the news of her release herself, highlighting that it is for medical purposes.
Rangriz was originally arrested on September 10, 2023, by security forces in Dameghan. She was subsequently released on bail from Shahroud prison on October 21, 2023.
She was later sentenced by the Shahroud Revolutionary Court to two years, seven months, and sixteen days in prison for “collaboration and membership in groups opposing the regime” and an additional seven months and sixteen days for “propaganda against the regime.”
On June 30, 2024, after attending a court session regarding another case in the First Branch of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Damghan, Rangriz was re-arrested and transferred to Shahroud prison.
This is not the first time Rangriz has faced imprisonment due to her activism. She has a history of previous arrests and convictions related to her advocacy work.
