Three Baloch child Sukhtbars were injured by gunfire and beatings from military forces at the Kalagan border in Saravan.
According to Kolbarnews, on Saturday, July 20, 2024, three Baloch child Sukhtbars in a Sukhtbari vehicle in the Kalagan border area of Saravan County were shot at by Mersad forces without prior warning or a stop order.
Two of them were severely injured by gunfire, and another was beaten and also injured.
The identities of these teenage Sukhtbars are: 14-year-old Omran Balochzehi and his 16-year-old brother Rahman Balochzehi, and their 15-year-old cousin Basit Balochzehi. All three are from the village of Modagali in the Bam-Posht district of Saravan County.
According to the report, Mersad military forces ambushed the Sukhtbars on their route in Kalagan, Saravan, and without warning or a stop order, opened fire on the vehicle as it was returning home. The driver, Rahman, was severely injured by a bullet to his abdomen, and his brother Omran was critically injured by a bullet near his heart. Both brothers, along with their cousin Basit, who was beaten and injured by the military forces, were taken to Razi Hospital in Saravan, where Omran’s condition is reported to be critical.
Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face.
According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
