Two Baloch Sukhtbars, returning from the Kalagan border of Saravan, were targeted by military forces, resulting in the death of one and the injury of another.
According to Kolbarnews, on Sunday, July 14, 2024, two Baloch Sukhtbars were shot at by military forces at the Kalagan border of Saravan, leading to one fatality and one injury.
The deceased Sukhtbar has been identified as “Jamshid (Jama) Gomshadzahi,” a 22-year-old son of Mohammad, and the injured Sukhtbar is “Akram Gomshadzahi,” a 19-year-old son of Shahmorad, both from Saravan.
According to informed sources, military forces from the Ben Sar checkpoint ambushed the route used by motorized Sukhtbars at the Kalagan border and opened fire on Jamshid and Akram without any warning. The source added that multiple bullets hit Jamshid, causing fatal injuries and death, while Akram was wounded in the incident.
Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face.
According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
