More than 150 municipality workers in Saqqez, who were employed in service sectors, have been dismissed.
According to Kolbarnews, just a few days before the first of May, International Workers’ Day, reports of the dismissal of over 150 municipality workers in Saqqez, who were working in service sectors, have been published. This action has been taken through “pressure from higher authorities.”
The Telegram channel “Association of Workers and Artisans of Banah” has announced the number of these workers as 170 and on the verge of International Workers’ Day, called it the “strange gifts of Saqqez municipality to its workers” and stated that the Saqqez municipality has targeted and dismissed these 170 workers.
The association further declares the reason for this action as “internal organizational tension and crisis.”
These workers were employed on an 87-day contract basis in green space, executive, and security sectors within this municipality.
Furthermore, delays in paying workers’ wages by municipalities have become a common practice. In recent months and years, municipality workers in various parts of Iran have repeatedly gathered in protest against this practice. Municipality officials cite financial resource shortages due to revenue reduction as the reason for not paying workers’ wages or introduce contractors as responsible for paying workers’ wages.
