Faranek Rafiei, an environmental activist from Sanandaj, was summoned and interrogated by security forces in connection with the recent strikes by shopkeepers and merchants in Kurdish cities protesting execution sentences.
According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, Faranek Rafiei, a civil and environmental activist from Sanandaj, was summoned by the Sanandaj Intelligence Department. She was reportedly detained and interrogated for three hours before being released upon signing a commitment.
Previously, on September 18, 2022, during nationwide protests, Ms. Rafiei was arrested by security forces in Sanandaj and later released on October 23, 2022, after posting bail at the Sanandaj Juvenile Correction Center.
As of the time of this report, no specific charges against Ms. Rafiei have been disclosed.
On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, shopkeepers and merchants in various Kurdish cities, including Sanandaj, Saqqez, Kamyaran, Divandarreh, and Marivan, went on strike to protest the issuance of execution sentences.
