Sanandaj: Ongoing Detention and Uncertainty for Afshin Hosseinpanahi

Afshin Hosseinpanahi, the brother of executed political prisoner Ramin Hosseinpanahi, remains in an uncertain state in Sanandaj prison, despite 46 days passing since his arrest.

According to Kolbarnews, Afshin Hosseinpanahi is still being held without clear legal proceedings in Sanandaj prison, even though 46 days have passed since his detention. A bail of 5 billion tomans had been set for his release, and despite his family managing to secure the amount, authorities refused to release him. During his detention, he has been denied access to both his family and legal representation.

Afshin Hosseinpanahi was arrested on January 8, 2025, by security forces at his workplace. In late February, after completing interrogation, he was transferred from a security detention center in Sanandaj to the city’s prison.

He has previously faced legal action and imprisonment due to his political activities.

It is worth noting that on September 8, 2018, his brother, Ramin Hosseinpanahi, along with two other political prisoners, Zaniar Moradi and Loghman Moradi, were executed. Their executions were carried out without prior notice to their lawyers, and their families were not allowed to be present. Contrary to legal procedures, their bodies were not returned to their families and were reportedly buried in an undisclosed location. Their families were also threatened to prevent protests and news coverage. These executions sparked reactions from human rights organizations and legal advocates.
