Amjad Geryakhiz, an anti-death penalty campaigner and labor activist from Sanandaj, has been released from Sanandaj Central Prison after posting bail.

According to Kolbarnews, on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Amjad Geryakhiz was released from prison after 35 days in detention. His release was secured through bail. During his detention, he was denied access to a lawyer and family visits.
Amjad Geryakhiz suffers from severe spinal pain, which worsened during his detention due to lack of medical care and treatment.
It is worth noting that his wife, Arezoo Sabouri, was threatened with arrest by security forces. During the first week of his detention, she, along with their two young children, visited the Sanandaj Intelligence Office daily to inquire about his whereabouts. However, security forces refused to provide any information and warned her that if she continued to pursue his case, she would also be arrested.
On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Amjad Geryakhiz, a labor activist and member of the anti-death penalty campaign, was arrested by security forces and taken to an undisclosed location. He was working at a bakery when he was detained on the street without a judicial warrant, allegedly for participating in the general strike in Kurdish cities.
Geryakhiz had previously been summoned and interrogated by security forces due to his activism against the death penalty, particularly during the case of Ramin Hossein Panahi’s execution.
