Ali Allahveysi, a civil activist and former political prisoner from Sanandaj, has been sentenced to one year and six months in prison by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj.
According to Kolbarnews, the sentence was issued by Judge Mostafa Azizi. Allahveysi was sentenced to one year of imprisonment for “membership in an opposition party to the Islamic Republic” and six months for “propaganda against the regime.” The trial was held on November 12, 2024, and the preliminary verdict was delivered on Sunday, November 17, 2024.
On Sunday, July 14, 2024, Ali Allahveysi was arrested in Sanandaj by security forces without a judicial warrant. He was released temporarily on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, after completing interrogation and posting bail of 500 million tomans.
This is not Allahveysi’s first legal trouble. In May 2022, the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj, presided over by Judge Saeedi, sentenced him to two years in prison for “propaganda against the regime and collaborating with an opposition party.” On appeal, the Fourth Branch of Kurdistan’s Court of Appeals modified the sentence to four years of suspended imprisonment and five months of actual imprisonment. He was detained in September 2022 to serve the sentence and released five months later after completing the term.
In a separate case, on Saturday, May 8, 2021, Allahveysi was arrested without a warrant by security forces. He was temporarily released on June 13, 2021, after posting bail of 200 million tomans, pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings.
