A Baloch Sukhtbar was severely injured due to direct gunfire by military forces in Rigan County.
According to Kolbarnews, on Saturday, December 28, 2024, military forces in Rigan, near the 800-meter mark, opened fire on a Sukhtbars vehicle without any prior warning or signal to stop.
The Sukhtbar, identified as Vahid Barahouyi, a 21-year-old from Khash and son of Gol Ahmad, sustained two bullet wounds.
Reports indicate that the military forces, disguised in civilian clothes and stationed at a newly established checkpoint five kilometers outside Rigan, blocked the citizen’s vehicle and fired directly without any warning. Vahid Barahouyi was critically injured in the neck and arm and was transported by ambulance to Rigan County Hospital.
Sukhtbari considered one of the unconventional and dangerous jobs that many Baloch people in Balochistan are forced to undertake due to the lack of suitable and sustainable employment opportunities. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that threaten the lives of Sukhtbars. According to reports from Baloch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baloch Sukhtbars lost their lives due to shootings by military forces, road accidents, and vehicle fires, while 80 others were injured in these incidents, including 9 children.
