Rasht: Zahra Dadras Temporarily Released from Lakan Prison

Zahra Dadras, a women’s rights activist, has been temporarily released from Lakan Prison in Rasht.

According to Kolbarnews, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Zahra Dadras was granted leave from Lakan Prison in Rasht to undergo medical treatment. 

Zahra Dadras was initially arrested by security forces in August 2023 and was released on bail from Lakan Prison in October of the same year.

On March 10, 2024, a court session was held at Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court in Rasht, presided over by Judge Mehdi Rasekhi, to address the charges against her and ten others in a joint case. The initial verdicts were delivered in early April 2024 by the same branch.

On June 28, 2024, the verdicts were upheld by Branch 11 of the Gilan Province Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Mohammad Sadegh Iran Aqideh. According to the issued ruling, Zahra Dadras was sentenced to six years, one month, and seventeen days in prison on charges of “membership in a group and assembly and collusion with the intent to disrupt national security.”

Zahra Dadras was re-arrested on July 10, 2024, after appearing at the Criminal Enforcement Branch and was subsequently transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht.
