Branch One of the Revolutionary Court in Rasht has sentenced labor activist Sharifeh Mohammadi to death on charges of “rebellion.”
According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, July 4, 2023, Branch One of the Revolutionary Court in Rasht sentenced labor and civil activist Sharifeh Mohammadi to death on charges of “rebellion.”
Mohammadi was arrested on December 5, 2022, and held in solitary confinement for several months. At the time of her arrest, she was charged with “propaganda against the regime,” an accusation that was later upgraded to the more severe charge of “rebellion” on flimsy grounds.
During her detention, Mohammadi was subjected to severe physical and psychological pressure to extract confessions. She was denied family visits, especially from her child, and was not allowed to make phone calls to her family for extended periods. The physical abuse and repeated mistreatment by the Ministry of Intelligence were so severe that prison officials eventually protested the beatings. Following this protest, Mohammadi was allowed to file a complaint. It has now been revealed that she was tortured at least twice during her detention.
The primary charge against her is “membership in the Coordinating Committee to Help Form Workers’ Organizations,” which security and intelligence forces claim is affiliated with Komalah.
In response, the Campaign to Defend Sharifeh Mohammadi issued a statement condemning the unjust death sentence and demanding that it be overturned.
