Qorveh: Azad Abbasi’s Sentence Reduced to One Year in Appeals Court

The three-year prison sentence of political prisoner Azad Abbasi, currently held in Qorveh prison, has been reduced to one year by the Kurdistan Appeals Court.

According to Kolbarnews, Abbasi’s sentence was reduced by the Kurdistan Appeals Court. The recent ruling, issued and communicated to Abbasi in prison, lowers his initial three-year sentence to one year. Azad Abbasi was detained in November 2023 to begin his prison term and transferred to Qorveh prison. Earlier, he had been arrested by security forces on September 18, 2023, in Dehgolan and was later released on bail from Sanandaj prison in October of the same year.

Abbasi also has a history of detention and conviction due to his activities during the nationwide protests in 2022.
