Oshnavieh; Former Political Prisoner Majid Daryaei Sentenced to One Year in Prison

Majid Daryaei, a former political prisoner from Oshnavieh, has been sentenced to one year of discretionary imprisonment by the city’s court.

According to Kolbarnews, Majid (Najm al-Din) Daryaei, a political activist and former political prisoner from Oshnavieh, has been sentenced by Branch 101 of the Second Criminal Court of the city to one year of discretionary imprisonment on charges of “propaganda against the regime in favor of opposition groups.” The verdict was recently formally communicated to him.

Mr. Daryaei had previously been summoned on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, to the First Investigative Branch of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Oshnavieh, where he was interrogated over the same charge. After being formally charged, he was temporarily released on bail pending trial.

Majid Daryaei had earlier been arrested on the night of January 24, 2018, due to the political activities of his son, Akam Daryaei, during a raid by security forces on their home, without presenting a court warrant. Prior to this arrest, he had been repeatedly threatened by security agencies.

Ultimately, on January 29, 2019, Mr. Daryaei was sentenced to two years in prison on charges of “collaborating with a Kurdish opposition party.”
