Following a raid by military forces, eight Baloch Sukhtbars were arrested and transferred to an unknown location.
According to Kolbarnews, on Monday, August 5, 2024, military forces raided the Sefidabeh area, part of Nimrouz County, and arrested eight Baloch Sukhtbars along with their Sukhtbari vehicles. They were taken to an unknown location.
The identity of one of the arrested Sukhtbars, “Esmail Barahoui,” a 25-year-old resident of the Sefidabeh area in Nimrouz County, has been confirmed.
The identities of the other arrested Sukhtbars, five of whom are from Saravan, are not known at the time of reporting.
According to local sources: This morning, military forces with at least nine vehicles raided the residential area of Sefidabeh and took the Sukhtbar’s vehicles parked in front of their homes along with the drivers.
Sources added: The military forces’ siege and raid caused fear and panic among the women, children, and residents of Sefidabeh. The officers took the Sukhtbars and their vehicles without presenting a judicial warrant.
Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face.
According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
