Nahbandan: One Sukhtbar Injured by Direct Fire from Security Forces

A Baloch Sukhtbar was severely injured after being shot by security forces from the Sahlabad checkpoint in Nahbandan.

According to Kolbarnews, citing sources in Balochistan, on Friday, August 9, 2024, security forces at the Sahlabad checkpoint in Nahbandan chased a Sukhtbari vehicle, deployed a tire-puncturing device, and upon bringing the vehicle to a stop, opened fire on the driver, severely wounding him.

As of the time of this report, the identity of the fuel carrier, reportedly driving a Samand car, remains unknown.

Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face.

According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
