Two young Baloch Sukhtbars were injured by a landmine explosion at the Rutek border in Mirjaveh. After discovering them, border forces reportedly assaulted them and set their vehicle on fire.
According to Kolbarnews, on Monday, October 28, 2024, two Baloch Sukhtbar were wounded by a landmine explosion near the Mirjaveh border.
The two, identified as 17-year-old Shahram Shahnavazi, son of Behnam, and 16-year-old Ali Shahnavazi, son of Din Mohammad, are residents of the Gusht area in Saravan County.
The report states that Shahram and Ali, along with several other Sukhtbari vehicles, were moving along the Rutek border in Mirjaveh when their vehicle struck a landmine planted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). As a result of the explosion, Shahram sustained injuries to his hand, and Ali was wounded in the neck and suffered burns. When forces from the 122nd Border Outpost in Mirjaveh arrived on the scene, the two were reportedly beaten by military personnel, and their vehicle was subsequently set on fire.
Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face. According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
