Mining Incident in Iran Claims One Life, Injures Two Others

On Thursday, November 14, 2024, part of the Kalat Sharq coal mine in the Cheshmeh Saran district of Azadshahr collapsed during maintenance operations, resulting in the death of one worker and injuries to two others.

According to Kolbarnews, this recent incident adds to a tragic history at the Kalat Sharq mine. In May 2017, a methane gas explosion at this site tragically claimed the lives of 35 workers.

In Iran, mining safety remains a critical concern, as recent data reveals that at least 64 miners have lost their lives in work-related accidents in just the first half of 2024. This troubling statistic underscores the pressing need to improve safety measures and working conditions in the country’s mines.
