A 6-year-old Baloch child lost his life after falling into a river in Mehrestan County.
According to Kolbarnews on Thursday, April 11, 2024, a 6-year-old Baloch child lost his life due to falling into the river in Mehrestan County. The identity of this Baloch child is “Omid Vadkar,” a 6-year-old son of Shahab, from Ashar district of Mehrestan County.
According to the report, yesterday, the family of this child had gone for a picnic around the river in the village of Berisan. Omid, along with his younger sister, went to the riverside to play when he fell into the river and tragically drowned.
The lack of fencing around the hotaks (water reservoirs) and the indifference of officials in managing them annually lead to the loss of many children’s lives in Chabahar and Dashtyari counties.
Hotak or houtg is a dug well for storing water, mainly used for livestock, but in recent years, due to the water scarcity crisis in Balochistan, people use hotak water for drinking and household purposes.
According to the Baloch Activists Campaign, during 2023, a total of 98 cases of child rights violations were recorded in Balochistan. At least 27 children were killed, 17 children were injured, 3 children drowned, 38 children were detained, and also one child bride was killed by gunshot.
