Suleiman Salak, a political prisoner held in Mahabad Prison, has been granted temporary leave.
According to reports on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Suleiman Salak was released on furlough from Mahabad Prison. A resident of Mahabad, Salak had been arrested in early September after appearing at the Mahabad Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office and was transferred to the city’s prison to serve his sentence.
In May of this year, Suleiman Salak was sentenced by Branch 102 of the Piranshahr Criminal Court to 10 years in prison on charges of “suspicion of collaborating with opposition parties” and an additional year for “membership in one of the opposition parties.” His sentence was later reduced to a quarter of the original length following an appeal.
Suleiman Salak has previously been arrested and faced judicial actions due to his political activities.
