In the past two days, extensive fires have broken out in the meadows and forests of Paveh, Javanroud, and Sarpol-e Zahab, burning dozens of hectares of natural land in these areas.
According to Kolbarnews, the fires began on the evening of Thursday, June 6, 2024, spreading across the meadows and forests of Balbazan in Paveh and then to Mount Noehl in Javanroud. Initial reports indicated that 20 hectares of Balbazan land had been consumed by the fire. However, the rekindling of the fire in this area has increased the damage.
Simultaneously with the fires in Balbazan and Noehl, the Sefid Barg area in Javanrud and the farms near Tak Tak Mountain in Sarpol-e Zahab also caught fire.
Over the past two days, fire-fighting operations have been primarily carried out by local residents without adequate equipment and skills. Local residents attribute the widespread fires and the resulting environmental damage in Kurdistan to the deliberate neglect and inefficiency of the authorities in timely fire suppression.
So far, the exact cause of these fires remains unknown. It should be noted that statements from some locals in recent years suggest that some of these fires are intentional, allegedly set by regime agents with political motives.
