Labor: Uncertainty for Over 600,000 Construction Workers and Insurance Challenges

More than 600,000 construction workers in Iran face serious issues, including inadequate insurance coverage and repeated halts in the issuance of insurance payment slips.

According to Kolbarnews, over 600,000 construction workers in Iran remain without social security insurance coverage. Even those who are insured are burdened with other challenges.

Hassan Ezati, head of the Construction Workers’ Union in Baneh, criticized the Social Security Organization’s performance, particularly the repeated suspension of payment slip issuance under the pretext of inspections. He described this approach as causing confusion among workers and significant time loss during their work.

Ezati stated that the inspections by the Social Security Organization, instead of accurately verifying employment, only increase costs and reduce productivity. He called for reforms in current practices and suggested that unions could, in collaboration with the Social Security Organization and at no extra cost, identify non-worker individuals and replace them with eligible workers.
