Labor Incident: One Worker Dead, Two Injured Due to Molten Material Spill

A tragic accident at a steel factory in Sorkheh Industrial Town, Semnan Province, resulted in the death of one worker and severe injuries to two others after a ladle of molten material suddenly tipped over.

According to Kolbarnews, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon, December 2, 2024, when a ladle of molten material being moved by a crane unexpectedly detached from the pulley system, spilling its contents onto the workers below.

Reports confirm that one of the victims, a technical supervisor at the factory, succumbed to fatal burns. The two other workers sustained severe injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment.

This tragic event underscores a broader issue of workplace safety in Iran. In 2023 alone, 2,115 workers (2,094 men and 21 women) lost their lives in work-related accidents, marking an 11.3% increase compared to the previous year, which saw 1,900 fatalities.

Globally, Iran ranks 102nd in workplace safety standards, highlighting significant deficiencies in enforcing and maintaining safe working conditions.
