Kurdistan: Summoning and Interrogation of 15 Labor, Environmental, and Cultural Activists in Sanandaj and Kamiyaran

Over the past week, 15 labor, environmental, and teachers’ union activists in the cities of Sanandaj and Kamiyaran were summoned, interrogated, and threatened by security agencies.

According to Kolbarnews, in recent days, two labor and environmental activists in Kamiyaran, identified as Jabbar Kamangar and Omid Ahmadi, were summoned to the Intelligence Office in that city, where they were interrogated and threatened. Additionally, over the past week, numerous social activists in Sanandaj were summoned and questioned by local security agencies. The identities of 13 of these activists have been confirmed by Kolbarnews, including Jalil Mohammadi, Zahed Moradian, Armin Sharifeh, Arman Nourizad, Dalir Nasrollahi, Lotfollah Ahmadi, Jamal Asadi, Ghaleb Hosseini, Yousef Geramipour, Rafiq Karimi, and Payam Fathi, who are labor and environmental activists, as well as Golnar Ghadimkhani and Reza Sharifeh, teachers’ union activists from Sanandaj.

According to the report, these activists were interrogated for several hours by Intelligence Office agents regarding “participation in International Workers’ Day events, International Women’s Day events, support for imprisoned labor activist Sharifeh Mohammadi, attendance at the funeral of labor activist Mozaffar Salehnia, and attempts to organize protest groups.” They were later released.

These activists are members of organizations such as the Coordinating Committee to Help Form Workers’ Organizations, Chalchemeh Mountaineering Group, the Free Union of Iranian Workers, Pishro Mountaineering Group, and the teachers’ union groups in Sanandaj.

All of these activists have previously faced summons, interrogation, detention, and imprisonment due to their labor, union, and environmental activities.
