Kurdistan: Lack of Workplace Safety Leads to Death of Two Workers in Mahabad and Oshnavieh

Two workers, Saadoun Alipour and Ali Aabroshan, from the cities of Mahabad and Oshnavieh, lost their lives due to unsafe working conditions and a lack of workplace safety measures.

According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, October 3, 2024, Saadoun Alipour was electrocuted while working at a poultry farm in Mahabad, resulting in his death. Saadoun Alipour was married and the father of two children.

In a separate incident, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, a worker named Ali Aabroshan fell from a height while working and died as a result. Ali Aabroshan, also married with two children, was from Oshnavieh.

It is worth noting that in 2023, workplace accidents claimed the lives of 2,115 workers (2,094 men and 21 women), marking an 11.3% increase compared to the previous year, when the death toll was 1,900. Iran ranks 102nd globally in terms of workplace safety, a very low position. The country is considered one of the most dangerous in terms of job safety, with many workers suffering accidents annually due to unsafe work environments.
