The injured Sukhtbar has been identified as Khodarahm Kabdani, a 40-year-old married man with children, who is a resident of Zahedan.
Local sources reported that at around, the occupants of a Peugeot Pars vehicle, belonging to the robbers, chased the Sukhtbari vehicle and fired shots at it. A bullet hit the vehicle’s tire, causing it to overturn. The driver was seriously injured, and the robbers fled the scene after stealing items from the vehicle, including the battery, speakers, and other equipment.
Khodarahm was transferred last night from Khash Hospital to Khaneh Al-Anbia Hospital in Zahedan due to his critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment.
Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face. According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
