Three citizens, including two Baloch Sukhtbars, were killed and injured following a military chase and vehicle overturn in Iranshahr County.
According to Kolbarnews, on Saturday, July 20, 2024, a military chase involving a Toyota pickup Sukhtbari in the village of Mohammadan, Iranshahr County, led to the vehicle overturning and catching fire. Two Sukhtbars lost their lives, and a pedestrian sustained burn injuries.
The identities of the deceased Sukhtbars are Khalid Dehani (Damani), 30 years old, married with two children, and Ahmad Dehani (Damani), 18 years old, unmarried, both from the village of Dorahi Sad, Iranshahr County.
The identity of the injured pedestrian remains unknown at the time of reporting.
Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face.
According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
