Iranshahr: Death of a Baloch Sukhtbar by Military Forces

A Baloch Sukhtbar lost his life following a high-speed chase and direct gunfire by military forces on the Chabahar–Iranshahr highway.

According to Kolbarnews, on the evening of Friday, May 30, 2025, Iranian security forces pursued a Sukhtbari vehicle on the Chabahar–Iranshahr route, near the Parag village junction, and opened fire on it.
The gunfire struck the driver, causing the vehicle to overturn. The Sukhtbar died as a result of gunshot wounds and injuries from the crash.

The deceased Sukhtbar has been identified as Morteza Ahmadi, approximately 25 years old, son of Morad, originally from Nikshahr and residing in Iranshahr.

Reports state that around 9:30 PM, Morteza was traveling in his personal vehicle when he was pursued by military forces. After being shot, he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned. The combination of the gunshot wound and the crash injuries led to his death.

Sukhtbari is considered one of the unconventional and dangerous jobs that many Baloch people in Balochistan have been forced to turn to due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle overturns, and direct gunfire from military and security forces are among the dangers that threaten the lives of these Sukhtbars. According to reports from Baloch activists, in the year 2024, at least 375 Baloch Sukhtbars have been injured or lost their lives due to shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires. Of this number, 240 Sukhtbars were killed and 135 were injured, representing a 55% increase in the number of killed and injured Sukhtbars compared to the year 2023.
