Ilam: Kianoush Cheraghi on Hunger Strike in Prison

Political prisoner Kianoush Cheraghi is on the fourth day of his hunger strike in Ilam Prison, protesting the revocation of his electronic ankle monitor and the enforcement of his prison sentence.

According to Kolbarnews, Kianoush Cheraghi, who had previously been released under electronic monitoring from Ilam Prison, faced the revocation of his ankle monitor by Branch 6 of the Ilam Court of Appeals on January 28, 2025. He was recently summoned to serve the remainder of his prison sentence.

Following this summons, security forces arrested him at his home in Dehloran with physical assault and transferred him to Ilam Prison, leading him to begin his hunger strike.

In April 2024, Kianoush Cheraghi was arrested after appearing before the enforcement branch of the Dehloran Public Prosecutor’s Office and was sent to Ilam Prison to serve his sentence. He was later released under electronic monitoring.

On November 6, 2023, Branch 101 of the Dehloran Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Hossein Panahi, sentenced him to two years of imprisonment for “spreading false information with the intent to disturb public opinion through online platforms.” Additionally, he was ordered to write a 200-page report on 10 individuals who died in the Iran-Iraq War, with approval from the Ilam Defense Foundation.

In another case in October 2023, Branch 2 of the Ilam Revolutionary Court, based in Dehloran and presided over by Judge Seyed Reza Salahodini, sentenced him to one year in prison for “propaganda against the Islamic Republic,” taking into account his previous time spent in detention.

Cheraghi was first arrested by security forces in Dehloran on October 3, 2023, and was released on bail after completing his interrogation. He had also been briefly detained on September 27, 2023, before being released.

Kianoush Cheraghi, 44, is a resident of Dehloran and a former employee of the Social Security Organization in the city.
