Hirmand: Crane Operator Dies from Electrocution During Work

A crane operator lost his life while working on the Siadat Bridge construction project in Hossein Ali Khan village, Hirmand County, after the crane’s boom came into contact with high-voltage power lines.

According to Kolbarnews, the victim, a 32-year-old worker from Zahak County, was electrocuted during the bridge construction operation. The crane boom of the Road and Urban Development Department unexpectedly struck a high-voltage power line, causing a severe electric shock to the worker holding the lifting chain at that moment. Unfortunately, the intensity of the shock was fatal.

In 2023, a total of 2,115 workers (2,094 men and 21 women) lost their lives in workplace accidents in Iran, marking an 11.3% increase compared to the previous year, which saw 1,900 fatalities.

Iran ranks 102nd globally in workplace safety, highlighting the country’s poor track record in protecting workers. With inadequate safety measures, Iran remains one of the most dangerous countries for workers, leading to numerous fatalities annually due to unsafe work environments.
