The Revolutionary Appeal Court in Rasht has upheld sentences totaling more than 60 years in prison for Gilan’s women’s rights activists.
According to Kolbarnews, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, Branch 11 of the Rasht Revolutionary Appeal Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad Sadegh Iran Aqideh, confirmed the prison sentences without holding a court session. These activists were arrested in August of the previous year.
The issued sentences include:
Zohreh Dadras: 6 years and 1 day for “forming a group with the intent to disturb national security” and 3 years, 6 months, and 1 day for “assembly and collusion” (totaling 9 years, 6 months, and 2 days).
Negin Rezaei, Matin Yazdani, Azadeh Chavoshian, Zahra Dadras, Forough Sami’Nia, Sara Jahani, Yasmin Hashdari, and Shiva Shahsiah: each sentenced to 3 years, 6 months, and 1 day for “assembly and collusion” and 2 years, 7 months, and 16 days for “membership in a group” (totaling 6 years, 1 month, and 17 days each).
Jelveh Javaheri and Houman Taheri: each sentenced to 1 year for “propaganda against the regime.”
On August 16, 2023, these activists were arrested by intelligence officers who raided their homes in Rasht, Bandar Anzali, Lahijan, and Fuman. After about six months of detention, they were temporarily released from Lakan Prison in Rasht on heavy bail pending the completion of their trials.
