On Sunday, September 1, 2024, Reza Shahabi, Keyvan Mohtadi, and Hassan Saeedi, three labor activists imprisoned in Evin Prison, were released after serving more than three years.
According to Kolbarnews, Reza Shahabi, Keyvan Mohtadi, and Hassan Saeedi, prominent members of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company, were arrested by regime forces in the spring of 2022.
They were released from Evin Prison on Sunday, September 1, 2024, after spending over three years in detention.
Hossein Taj, the lawyer representing these labor activists, stated, “After being sentenced to six years in prison, their request for a retrial was accepted by the Supreme Court, and the case was referred to a parallel branch. This branch reduced each of their sentences to three years and six months.”
According to Mr. Taj, “After the new ruling, the three became eligible for amnesty under the 2022 clemency decree. We submitted a petition to the Security Prosecutor’s Office and the Enforcement Office, and ultimately, the Tehran Prosecutor’s Office approved their inclusion in the amnesty. Today, they were released under the 2022 amnesty directive, effectively closing the case.”
Mr. Taj also commented on the status of Anisha Asadollahi, another imprisoned labor activist and the wife of Keyvan Mohtadi, stating, “Next week, they will submit a new request for a retrial to the Supreme Court, hoping it will be accepted.”
