Warisha Moradi, a political activist imprisoned in Evin Prison, has reached the eighteenth day of her indefinite hunger strike.
According to Kolbarnews, today, October 28, 2024, Warisha Moradi, a political activist imprisoned in Evin and accused of “rebellion,” continues her indefinite hunger strike in protest against the issuance and execution of death sentences in Iran. Moradi’s health is in serious danger due to weight loss, low blood pressure, and severe physical pain.
Warisha Moradi, a political activist from Sanandaj and a member of the East Kurdistan Free Women’s Society (KJAR), announced on October 11, 2024 (World Day Against the Death Penalty) that she would begin an indefinite hunger strike in protest against death sentences in Iran.
This activist was detained by security forces on August 1, 2023, at the entrance to Sanandaj. Thirteen days after her arrest, she was transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence detention center, known as Ward 209 of Evin Prison, and finally, on December 26, 2023, following the completion of her interrogations, she was moved to the women’s ward of the prison.
The first court hearing for Moradi’s charges took place on June 17, 2024, in Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Salavati, on the charge of “rebellion” due to her membership in a Kurdish opposition party to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Her second hearing was postponed in August due to her refusal to appear and again in September due to the absence of the prosecutor’s representative and Judge Amoozad. The court eventually convened on October 6, 2024, in Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.
Moradi was formally charged with “rebellion” by Branch 5 of the Tehran General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office.
