Dashtyari; Death of a child due to falling into a hootak

An 8-year-old Baloch child in Dashtyari county lost his life after falling into a hotak (water pit).

According to Kolbarnews on Friday, May 3, 2024, a Baloch child lost his life due to falling into a hootak. 

The identity of this Baloch child is “Naman Bashkar,” 8 years old, son of Barkat, from the village of Dor in Dashtyari county. 

According to this report, Naman was playing with his friends around the hotak when he fell into it.

Hootak, or hootag, is a dug pit used for storing water, primarily for agricultural purposes, but in recent years, due to the water crisis in Balochistan, people have been using hootak water for drinking and household purposes.

According to the Baloch Activists Campaign, in 2023 alone, a total of 98 cases of child rights violations have been recorded in Balochistan. At least 27 children have been killed, 17 children injured, 3 children have drowned, 38 children have been detained, and tragically, one child bride has been killed by gunshot.
