Dameghan: Women’s Rights Activist Atefeh Rangriz Sentenced to Two Years in Prison

Atefeh Rangriz, a women’s rights activist, has been sentenced to two years of imprisonment by Branch 102 of the Criminal Court of Dameghan in another part of her case.

According to Kolbarnews, Atefeh Rangriz was convicted of “spreading falsehoods.” Her lawyer, Hossein Taj, announced that the new ruling adds two years of imprisonment to her prior sentences.

Earlier this month, Atefeh Rangriz was sentenced by the Dameghan Revolutionary Court to seven years in prison for “forming a Telegram group (Translation Gago)” and seven months for “propaganda against the regime.” Additionally, she was banned from social media activities for two years.

Rangriz had been temporarily released for medical leave due to health complications but was previously arrested on September 10, 2023, by security forces in Dameghan. She was released on bail on October 21, 2023. However, in connection with her earlier charges, the Shahroud Revolutionary Court sentenced her to 2 years, 7 months, and 16 days for “collaborating with and being a member of anti-regime groups,” along with an additional 7 months and 16 days for “propaganda against the regime.”

Atefeh Rangriz was detained again on June 30, 2024, and transferred to Shahroud Prison.

This is not her first arrest; Atefeh Rangriz has a history of being detained and sentenced due to her activism.
