Dameghan: Arrest of Women’s Rights Activist Atefeh Rangriz

Atefeh Rangriz, a writer, translator, and women’s rights activist, was arrested and transferred to Shahroud prison following a court session addressing her charges.

According to Kolbarnews, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, Atefeh Rangriz, a writer, translator, and women’s rights activist, was arrested. The report states that after the court session addressing her charges at the first branch of the Dameghan General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office, Atefeh Rangriz was arrested and transferred to Shahroud prison. 

Recently, she had been summoned to the mentioned branch to defend herself against charges of forming a group with the intent to disrupt national security, propaganda against the regime, and spreading falsehoods in social media with the intention of disturbing public opinion.

Atefeh Rangriz was previously arrested by security forces in Dameghan on September 10, 2023, and transferred to the detention center of the Semnan Intelligence Office. After completing the interrogation process, she was transferred to Shahroud prison. She was ultimately released on bail from Shahroud prison on October 21, 2023.

Ms. Rangriz has a history of arrest and conviction due to her activities.
