Court of Appeal: Soma Pourmohammadi, Kurdish Language Instructor, Acquitted of Charges

Soma Pourmohammadi, a resident of Sanandaj, a Kurdish language instructor, and a board member of the “Nozhin” Cultural Association, has been acquitted of the charges against her by the Kurdistan Province Court of Appeal.

According to Kolbarnews, Soma Pourmohammadi has been acquitted of the charge of “forming groups with the intention of disrupting national security.” The verdict, recently issued by the Fourth Branch of the Kurdistan Province Court of Appeal, was communicated to Ms. Pourmohammadi. The hearing for this case was held on August 14, 2024.

Previously, in May 2024, the First Branch of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Karami, had sentenced Soma Pourmohammadi to ten years in prison and exile to Kermanshah prison on the same charge. Additionally, she had been sentenced to a one-year suspended prison term by the 106th Branch of the Sanandaj Criminal Court for “disrupting public order.”

Ms. Pourmohammadi was initially arrested in December 2022 and was released on bail after about a month.
