Amid the ongoing challenges faced by citizens in accessing clean water, a five-year-old child tragically drowned today after falling into a water storage pit (Hootag) in Chabahar County.
According to Kolbarnews, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, a child drowned after falling into a water storage pit in Chabahar County.
The child has been identified as “Mohammad Tayyib Mihan-Khah,” a five-year-old from the Chokat area of Chabahar County.
The report states that the child was playing near the pit and, due to inadequate fencing around these water storage pits, fell into one of them, resulting in his drowning and subsequent death.
Hootak, or hootag, is a dug pit used for storing water, primarily for agricultural purposes, but in recent years, due to the water crisis in Balochistan, people have been using hootak water for drinking and household purposes.

At least 27 children have been killed, 17 children injured, 3 children have drowned, 38 children have been detained, and tragically, one child bride has been killed by gunshot.
