Chabahar: A Baluch Worker Dies Due to Lack of Workplace Safety

A Baluch worker in Chabahar lost his life while working due to the collapse of a sewage trench wall.

According to Kolbarnews, citing sources in Balochistan, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, a Baluch worker from the Water and Sewerage Department died while working due to the lack of workplace safety. 

The incident occurred when the wall of a trench dug by the Water and Sewerage Department in the Korser neighborhood near the Mother Square in Chabahar collapsed. 

The worker’s body was retrieved from under the debris after six hours.

As of the time of this report, the identity of the worker, who is said to be from Zahedan, has not been confirmed.

It is noteworthy that in the year 2023, a total of 2,115 workers (2,094 men and 21 women) lost their lives in work-related incidents. This represents an 11.3% increase compared to the previous year, when the number of fatalities was 1,900.
Iran ranks 102nd in the world in terms of workplace safety, a notably low position.
