Bukan: Arrest of Civil Activist and Kurdish Language Teacher Susan Hassanzadeh

Susan Hassanzadeh, a civil activist and Kurdish language teacher, was arrested by agents of the Intelligence Department of Bukan.

According to Kolbarnews, on Wednesday, May 16, 2024, agents of the Intelligence Department of Bukan raided the home of Susan Hassanzadeh, a civil activist and Kurdish language teacher, arresting her and transferring her to an unknown location.

Reliable reports indicate that around 10 AM on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, eight vehicles carrying Bukan Intelligence Department agents stormed Ms. Hassanzadeh’s home, used violence to arrest her, and transported her to an undisclosed location.

So far, no information is available about the reasons for her arrest, the charges against her, her whereabouts, or her fate. Ms. Hassanzadeh’s family has been seeking information from relevant authorities but has yet to receive any clear answers.

This incident has sparked widespread reactions from civil and human rights activists both inside and outside Iran. Many have condemned the action as a blatant violation of human rights and freedom of expression, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Ms. Hassanzadeh.
