A car accident and subsequent fire on the Bandar Abbas to Minab highway resulted in the death of one Sukhtbar and injuries to another.
According to Kolbarnews, on Monday, November 25, 2024, a Peugeot 405 Sukhtbari car collided with concrete barriers on the Bandar Abbas to Minab highway. The driver was engulfed in flames and lost his life, while the passenger was thrown from the vehicle and injured.
As of the time of this report, the identities of the two individuals remain unknown.
Sources stated that military forces have set up checkpoints on the Bandar Abbas to Minab highway specifically targeting Sukhtbars. To avoid confiscation of their vehicles, Sukhtbars are compelled to drive at high speeds, often recklessly, leading to accidents.
Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face. According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
