Following a shooting by military forces at the entrance of Bandar Abbas, two Sukhtbars were killed by direct fire from regime forces.
According to Kolbarnews, citing Balochistan sources, the identity of one of the two Sukhtbars who died on the evening of Tuesday, June 4, 2024, has been confirmed.
The incident involved direct fire from military forces at the entrance of Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan Province, which led to the fuel-carrying Samand vehicle catching fire.
The identified Sukhtbar is “Mohammad Rahvar,” a resident of the Posht Shahr area of Bandar Abbas. The identity of the other Sukhtbar, who is also from Bandar Abbas, is still unknown at the time of this report.
Local sources stated: “On the evening of June 4, Commander of the Police Force Ali Akbar Javidan personally came with a Land Cruiser and shot at the Sukhtbars until the vehicle caught fire. After the vehicle exploded, he left the scene. This is not the first time; it has happened several times before. People are suffering and it is truly unjust that someone should burn alive for a piece of bread.”
Sukhtbari is considered one of the unconventional and dangerous jobs that many Baloch people in Balochistan have resorted to out of lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle overturning, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that threaten the lives of Sukhtbars in this profession. According to reports from Baloch activists in 2023, at least 172 Baloch Sukhtbars lost their lives due to shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, and 42 others were injured in these incidents, including 11 children
