A Baloch child has gone missing after being swept away by the overflowing Benpour River and falling into its waters.
According to Kolbernews, on Thursday, April 18, 2024, following the overflow of the “Pasht Cover” river in the Benpour (Bampour) district, a child drowned and went missing after falling into the water. The search for the child continues among the indifference of crisis management authorities, the Red Crescent, and other relevant organizations by the people.
The identity of this Baloch child, “Elias Reisi,” aged 10, son of Reza, from the village of Mach Ghasem in the Benpour district, has been disclosed.
According to the report, Elias, along with his older brother, went to the river around two o’clock in the afternoon to watch the flood, but after slipping into the floodwaters, his brother’s attempts to rescue him were in vain.
It is said that the Red Crescent forces were also present at the scene during the incident but did not take positive action to rescue the child. After his disappearance, they searched for him and then withdrew from further search activities, promising to return tomorrow with a boat to the site.
According to the Baloch Activists Campaign, in 2023 alone, a total of 98 cases of child rights violations have been recorded in Balochistan. At least 27 children have been killed, 17 children injured, 3 children have drowned, 38 children have been detained, and tragically, one child bride has been killed by gunshot.
