Due to direct gunfire by military forces, two Sukhtbars were killed and injured in the cities of Khash and Rask.
According to Kolbarnews, on Friday, November 8, 2024, a Baloch Sukhtbar named Ali-Morad Sandakzehi died following a chase by border forces in the deserts of Khash.
The report states that after encountering gunfire from border forces, Sandakzehi abandoned his vehicle and fled towards the border desert. However, he reportedly suffered a heart attack during his escape and lost his life.
On the same day, in a separate incident in the town of Rask, another Baloch Sukhtbar named Javad Parsa was injured after being shot by security forces. Reports from Balochistan news channels indicate that plainclothes forces opened fire on Parsa without issuing any prior warning or demand to stop.
Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face. According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
